Lok Kawi Wildlife Park, part 3

Today i will continue to post about my experiences at Lok Kawi Wildlife Park. If you wish to view my two previous posts (Lok Kawi Wildlife Park ), please click at here or here. Hopefully this post will give you a little bit knowledge about the animals in the park and know more about sabah.
Proboscis Monkey
It is one of the famous monkey in Sabah.
Other name of this monkey ?
-'Dutch Monkey'
How big ?
-It can grow up to 66-72cm long and weigh between 16-23 kg. Their tails are as long as their body.
Where can find this monkey?
-They are found only on the island of Borneo, where they live in mangroves, lowland riverrine and swamp forests.
Maturity?
-Female reach maturity at 4-5 years.
Life expectancy?
20 years.
Gestation?
-The gestation period is about 5 months. Newborn has a deep blue face color and changes to its adult colors at about 3-4 months. Parental care usually last about 1-1.5 years.
Diet?
-Plant materials such leaves, fruits, seeds, flowers and insects.
Characteristics?
-in groups consisting the all male groups and others forms harem consisting one mature male and several females and their offspring.
Active time?
-early morning and late afternoon.

Zebras
The photo above shows zebras. The zebras at the park are very dirty , i think they never take bath before.

Ring-tailed Lemur
Species?
- one of twenty-two species of lemurs.
- share a common ancestry with Africa's monkeys and apes, but were isolated from those species probably 50 million years ago when Madagascar separated from the African continent.
Where can find this animal?
- east African of Madagascar.
Why call this animal as ring-tail lemur?
-The word Lemur comes from old Latin and refers to ghosts and spirits. The staring eyes, haunting sounds and nocturnal ways of lemur inspired early observers to think them as ghost or forest spirits.
How this animal look like?
-The Ring-tailed lemur's coat is black gray, the limbs and belly lighter and the extremities white. There are rings about the eyes, the muzzle is black, the tail is banded black and white.
Ability?
- uses the ground for travel.
Life of this animals?
-It is diurnal and gregarious, living in groups of 5-30.
-Females are generally dominant to males.
-They love to sunbathe with legs and arms spread wide.
-They are the most terrestrial of all lemur species and spends time in all layers of the forest.
-They move by walking or running quadrupedally, holding their tails almost completely vertically as they move.
Gestation?
-139 days.
-The young are grayish with thin coat of hair.
-The entire groups helps care for and play with the young.
-They are sexually mature and fully grown at 1.5 years.
Life expectancy?
19 years. Ring-tailed lemur are herbivorouss.
diet?
leaves, freuits and berries, bird eggs, small mammals , insects.
How big of this animals?
- 2.2-5.5 kg.
How this animals protect themselves?
- use their tails as a visual signal
-In aggressive encounters, the ring-tailed lemur will wave its scent-covered tail in the direction of a rival.
-Large calls alert other members of the social group to danger and help maintain comfortable spacing between groups.

Cow

The cow is peeping now... look very funny so i take its photo as a memory.

Tufted or Brown Capuchin Monkey (not Sun Wu Kong)
Tufted Capuchin Monkey is one of the 6 species of Capuchin Monkey.
Where can find this animals?
-every South American country except Uruguay and Chile .
Why this animal is known as Brown Capuchin?
-all brown with darker legs and feet.
life?
-Capuchin lives in social groups.
-Both male and females Capuchin have their own hierarchies and although the males tend to be larger and more muscular and physically protect the group from external threats, the females are very influential in the group structure and formation of alliances.
Diet
-fruits, insects, bird eggs, young birds, baby squirrel and small lizards. On average, Capuchin consume 20% meat, 65% fruits and 15 % green plants.
How big of this animals?
-Body weight may reach between .1.8 to 6.8 kg.
-Females are usually smaller than males.
-Capuhin have a medium size body for a monkey, and can grow up to between 12-22 inches.
-They have a long prehensile tail, about the same length of their body.
Life expectancy?
- 35 to 45 years.
Characteristics?
- highly active animals, spending about 80% of the daylight hours moving through the forest, foraging, debarking and rolling over sticks and logs.
-very playful and mischievours animals indeed.
Speciality?
- able to eat larger nuts and seeds than the other Capuchin as they have more powerful jaws and larger teeth.
-use a variety of nut-cracking techniques, including using a rock to break open shells, banging nuts hard surface or smashing two nuts together.
-one of the most intelligent and adaptable of all SOuth American primates.
-These qualities allow them to exploit many habitat.

Lerises
This type of monkey is very "paiseh" one. But it has a pair of big beautiful eyes. Unfortunately I am not able to take the photo.

Miniature Horse

Bornean Gibbon

Borneo Gibbons are slender arboreal primates without tails and travels rapidly within the canopy of tall dipterocarp trees.
Life of this animals?
-usually associate in groups of two to six individuals, consisting of a male, female and their offspring.
What are their foods?
- ripe wild fruit, young leaves, insects and often drink water from a tree hole.
How big they are?
- 6.4 to 7 kg of body weight.
Speciality?
Adult females have a "bubbling" loud call, usually in the morning.
Where can find this animals?
-Northern Penisular Malysia, South Sumatra and Thailand.
Smooth Otter
How they protect themselves?
-The smooth Otter communicates by shrill, yelping calls and whistles.
-Luckily i have the chance to listen their sounds when they are eating the fish as shown above the photo but the sound is quite scaring.
How big of this animals?
-An adult otter weighs between 7-11kg.
Where can find this animals?
-West Asia, India, Himalayas, Assam, Burma, Indochina, Thailand and Sumatra.
Maturity?
- 3 years ( izzit maturity means that after 3 years this animals only can having the sex?)
Life expectancy?
- 15 years
Gestation?
-63 days
- Litter size is between 1-5 and parental care last about 4 month.
Chracteristics?
-powerful burrowers
-dig a breeding den where both male and female carry nesting materials into the den and food for the cubs.
Diet?
- fish, frogsm crayfish and aqutic invertebrates
Habitats?
-active both day and night ( not need to sleep? )
-inhabit inland flat lands, lakes, streams, reservoirs, canal and flooded fields.
Malayan tiger(izzit Lee Chong Wei?)
How big of this animals?
-2.57-2.84m in length, 1.22-1.37m in height and weigh between 150-195kg
Where can find this animals?
-Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Southern China.
Maturity?
-Females reach maturity at 3-4 years and male tigers at 4-8 years.
Life expectancy?
- 14-16 years.
Gestation?
-15 weeks and 2-4 cubs are born weighing about 1kg each. Parental care usually last 18 month-2 years. This interval between birth is 18-28 months.
What the foods they like to eat?
-Tigers are strict carnivores and they have big appetites.
-A hungry tiger can eat over 36 kg of meat at one time.
-They are carnivores and the diet consists mostly and the diet consists mostly of deer, wild boar and a variety of other mammals.
Life?
-In the wild, tigers mark their territory with their urine, faces and by scratching trees.
-Tigers prefer a solitary life and they inhabit all kinds of forest that can supply enough preys, water and shelters.
Malayan Sun Bear(not the Kung Fu Panda)
The Malayan Sun Bear is the smallest bear in the world.
Do you know that?
-The word "heli" is Sun arctos is bear.
How the this animals look like?
The hair is short and entirely black, except for a while spot or V-shape mark on the upper chest.
How big of this animals?
-5 feet tall and weight to 60kg
-large powerfully built
- head is large and flexible muzzle omnivorous mammals with a short tail and a good sense of smell, but poor sight and hearing.
Speciality?
- most agile climber and spends a great time in trees ( i saw it climbed the trees very fast during i visited the park)
Diet?
- fruit and leaves gathed directly from the branches apart from termites, bee nests and small mammals by using their front paws and long tougue
Active?
-live solitarily and is mainly active at night, and spends the day basking in the sun and sleeping.
-Female bear gave birth their cubs on the ground in a secuded spot and remain with their parents for up to 2 years.
These 3 posts will end my journey at Lok Kawi Wildlife Park. If you have chance to kota kinabalu, you must have a visit to this park. It will to be a nice memory for you. Bye bye Lok Kawi Wildlife Park.

the proboscis monkey is about 50-60kg the heaviest. for Male Adult oh.. at Sg Garama there.
