Lok Kawi Wildlife Park 2

First of all, I would like to introduce the Children's Zoo inside the park.

Children 's zoo provide a service for visitors to ride on the elephant, price is RM5/ride. So, you have the chance to experience ride on the elephant. However, you need to be there on time because the ride is from 10am to 11am and from 2pm to 3pm, plus many visitors there. Unfortunately, I miss the chance to ride on the elephants T.T

The photo above shows the Asian Elephants. The Asian Elephant is the largest land mammal in Asia. It can grow up to 2-2.5m in height and weight up to 5400kg. Besides in Malaysia, Asian Elephants can also found in countries like Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, Burma, Indonesia, China and so on. There are between 38000-51000 Asian Elephants in the world of which 16000 are domesticated. Female elephants reach maturity at between 9-15 years while male elephant at 15 years. The average life expectancy for a typical Asian Elephant is 70 years. The longest living elephant is captivity is "Lin Wang" which died at the age of 86 in 2003 at Taipei Zoo in Taiwan. The gestation period for an Asian ELephant is between 18--22 months and new born calves usually weight around 100 kg. Parental care usually last 2-3 years. The interval between births is 3-5 years and a female elephant can have offspring's until the age of 50 years. Asian Elephants usually eat up to 10 % of 170-200 kg of food and 80-200 liters of water a day. The diet of an Asian Elephant consists of plant materials such as leaves, roots, barks and fruits. They also require minerals which are found in salt licks. In the wild, an Asian Elephant is part of a hard of 10-30 closely related animals, led by an elderly female called the "matriarch".

The photo above shows Ostrich. Ostrich birds are fightless. It can grow up to 1.75-2.75m in height and weight about 136kg.They are found in the open Savannah in South Africa and Namib desert of South West Africa. Females mature about 6 months earlier than males and reach sexual maturity at 3 years. The average life expectancy is approximately 40 years but they can live up to 70 years. Females lay up to 12 eggs for incubation in a pit dug out by the male bird. The incubation period is approximately 6 weeks. They are omnivores and the diet consists of plant materials such as grasses, leaves, seeds and small animals such as rodents, lizards and insects. Ostriches are social birds that live in small groups.

I couldn't find the name of this animal in the park but this animal is located just beside the ostrich. So, I guess it is a type of peacock...(not sure).

The photo above shows the sambar deer. The Sambar can grow up to 100-150cm in shoulder height, weigh up to 100 kg and antler length is 29-56cm. Besides Malaysia, they are also found in Sri Lanka, India, Himalayas and so on. In reaches maturity at 18-24 months. The average life expectancy is between 16-20 years. Gestation period is 6 months and parental care usually last 2 years. A female Sambar Deer can have offspring annually until her best breeding years are over. The diet includes grasses, herbs, shrubs, young leaves of woody plants and fallen fruits. In sabah, they occeu in lowland dipterocarp and lower montane forests. Active mainly at night, early morning and late afternoon. They are usually solitary, but groups of two or more are sometimes seen.

The photo aboce shows the clouded Leopard. The clouded leopard is the largest cat species found in Borneo. They can grow about 1.5 M (from nose to tip of tail) weight up to 23kg. It takes about 26 months to mature and life expectancy is between 11 to 17 years. The gestation is about 93 days. Litter size is between 2-4 where cubs weigh 150-180g each at birth. The diet consists of a wide variety of animals, such as bearded pig, barking deer, mouse deer, monkeys, orangutans and small mammals. Clouded Leopards are mainly nocturnal and arboreal. They occurs in tail and secondary forests, sometimes in mangrove. Beside Borneo, the Clouded Leopard can also be found in the Himalayas, Assam, Taiwan and so on.

The photo above shows the Musang Lamri. It is nocturnal and arboreal. It steeps in tree holes or forks in large trees. It occurs in lowland dipterocarp and lower montane forest. It is found in tall and secondary forest, sometimes enters plantations to feed. Its life span is about 15 years.

This tortoise is very clever, :) it knows i am taking its photo so it looks at me. So cute.....Now I know, tortoise like to pose when taking photo.

I think this bird I not need to introduce because it is a very common bird. I think everybody should know about this bird right?

This bird is very beautiful. Eagle.

The peacock is eating.

One interesting thing at the bird zone - it is very noisy at there but I like the sound at there. It is a very wonderful sound that come out from those birds. Seem like they are singing there....

The photo above shows that the Hill Myna. It comes from the family of Sturnide. It is one of the species of Grace religiosa. It can easily be found at India to China, SE Asia, Palawan, Malay Penisula and Greater Sundas including Borneo (Island). It likes to eat fruits and insects. Its habitats are woods and forest, always near water and this birds always in the large group. Oh ya...this bird know how to say "Hello".
